The definition and purpose of the Melchizedek Priesthood is as follows:
The priesthood is the power and authority of God. It is conferred upon worthy male members of the Church. Those who hold priesthood keys direct the administration of the ordinances of the gospel, the preaching of the gospel, and the government of the kingdom of God on the earth.
The Melchizedek Priesthood holds “the keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church.”
The duties of an Elder are as follows and can be found in Doctrine & Covenants 20:38-45:
38 The a duty of the elders, priests, teachers, deacons, and members of the church of Christ—An b apostle is an c elder, and it is his calling to d baptize;
41 And to a confirm those who are baptized into the church, by the laying on of b hands for the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, according to the scriptures;
45 The elders are to a conduct the b meetings as they are c led by the Holy Ghost, according to the commandments and revelations of God.
Several family and friends came to support T today as he was ordained by his father. T invited his grandfathers, uncles, a great uncle and few leaders he is very close to, to stand in the circle and participate in this ordinance.
Immediately following T being set apart, he was able to set apart his 14 year old cousin as a teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood. He did an amazing job!
